The Election by Tessa Hart
Directed by Kasia Różycki
Starring: Robinah Kironde, Velenzia Spearpoint, Andrew Umerah
Performed at the Bread and Roses Theatre
Part of The Platform
As part of the Clapham Fringe 2016 The Bread & Roses Theatre was celebrating its 2nd year anniversary with a special edition of their in-house new writing night, The Platform.
'The five playlets were some of the best writing I’ve seen for ages and each had that elusive quality - difference. They were also dramatic, witty and moving, three qualities at a premium in most new work today. [...]
The Election, by Tessa Hart, gave us a mayoral election campaign, two candidates on the stump in a world where gender roles have been reversed to a chilling extreme. It could so easily have been heavy handed in the writing but within a couple of lines, any fear of that was gone.
It would be wrong to single out individual performances. They were, without exception, highly accomplished and directed to just the right level. The sad thing is it’s all over on Thursday November 3rd, but I gather Bread and Roses showcase new writing twice a year now. If future work comes up to last night’s standard, they’ll be fighting at the door for tickets.'
